Onwards and upwards!
Day 5 – Roma!
Our pace in visiting Rome pretty much matched the pace of Rome itself. I felt like a racing car that was soon to run out of gas. Rome was a blur. Get up, shower, wait for bus, catch that bus, run here, run there, catch that bus again! See this, see that, take a picture, sit down and rest feet. Catch that bus again!
Whew! I get tired just thinking about it all.
Part of the reason for the hectic pace was we decided to do it in a day, we didn’t go with any tour groups and just went on our own. It was a totally spontaneous trip. I’m surprised with the stressful pace, we didn’t bicker amongst ourselves more. I was even more surprised when later on, when conducting a casual poll of the group’s favorite activity, almost everybody (except me) had the Rome visit at the top of their list. Everyone thought we really kicked ass, which okay, we kinda did. My friend T even said later on that I was such a trouper he totally forgot I was pregnant and to check on whether I was doing okay.
For the record, I was okay, just my feet and legs were not.
A big bad one for me. We had no time to eat while in Rome aside from snacks, and I was so hungry that on the train back, I ordered McD’s. After all the rich but comparatively healthy food I’d been eating, my body did not take kindly to being given so much grease. Oh well. I was hungry!
Here are pictures from that day. From St. Peter’s Basilica and Vatican City, to the Colisseum, and the Trevi fountain. I must admit, I looooved the Colisseum:
